Video on CarPlay in iOS 27.2: what changed and how to watch

iOS 27.2 changed the rules for video in CarPlay. Car Cinema follows them: on iOS 27.2 it plays films, live TV and YouTube on the car’s display while you’re parked, in every car with CarPlay.

What changed in iOS 27.2

Apple reworked how apps show video on a car’s screen. Cars built for video in CarPlay keep CarPlay’s own video player, and Car Cinema 1.0.3 brings its own car screen back in every other car with CarPlay too.

What you get, by iOS version

  • iOS 27.2 and later: films, live TV and YouTube on the car’s display while parked, in every car with CarPlay.
  • iOS 26.4 to 27.1: the same, in every car with CarPlay.
  • iOS 18 to 26.3: your lists on the car’s screen and the sound through the car; the picture plays on the iPhone or your TV.

How to watch on iOS 27.2

  1. Update Car Cinema to version 1.0.3 or later from the App Store.
  2. Connect your iPhone to CarPlay, with a cable or wirelessly.
  3. Park, open Car Cinema on the car’s screen and tap I am parked.
  4. Pick a channel, a film or YouTube — it plays on the car’s display.

On the move, your lists stay on the car’s screen and the sound keeps playing through the car’s speakers.

To see what your own car can do, open Car Cinema and go to Settings → What plays where, or read the compatibility page.
